I arrived in San Francisco today and was pleasantly surprised at how warm it was! I was all geared up for the cold weather and came having to strip off my long sleeve as I walked out of the airport. My neighborhood is on the southern end of the city, so I arrived by shuttle rather quickly. As soon as I arrived I was greated by my new "home-stay family," and a nice cold Corona. Regina, Amanda and Antonio are originally from Brazil. Today, they were also holding a Brazilian style barbaque for their friend Jaime's 49th birthday. There was lots of steak, sausage, and both were dipped in this yuca flour afterwards. So delicious! My stomach is very full, and I am going to bed feeling both welcome and content. I heard pretty much nothing but Portugese all night, which was wonderful, and I was able to interject here and there in Spanish. I feel like I'm studying abroad! There is also a realy cute dog here named Chloe. I'm pretty sure she is a mutt, but I could be wrong. My anticipations about the weather soon became very true as the night progressed - before desert arrived I could see my breath! We made a little bonfire in the backyard and enjoyed the heat before I was just too tired from my day of traveling and eating. Tomorrow I plan on going exploring in my new neighborhood, running a few errands, and finally allowing myself to feel excited about my upcoming summer experience in California.
Buenas noches!
