2011 Resolutions, OR Better Late than Never

So I realized today that I'm crazy stressed out, I never take time for myself, I eat like crap, and I haven't worked out in a serious way since May of 2010. And by realized I mean finally had the motivation to get off my ass and actually do something about it. I used to be the type of person to stop and smell the roses. Working at a job that makes you jump on a shuttle bus at 7:00am to sit in traffic for an hour and a half to then work 8 hours and then take another hour and a half shuttle is not necessarily good for "Balance" in your life. The realization today is that I need to get my life back. It's going to be a hostile takeover, but it needs to happen. I look in the mirror and I don't see the same person I was a year ago. I'm not healthy. I've stopped caring about my body - and not necessarily what it looks like, but rather, more along the lines of, "garbage in, garbage out." For the first time in my life I have a little tummy. Seriously, it's time to GTFO. I've been using the "Work" excuse and the "My knee is busted" excuse to not exercise for way too long now. I decided that tonight was the night. I got home, ate about 6 chocolate covered marshmallows (ok, that was seriously counter-productive, but don't you see the mental state I'm in right now!), and then put my running clothes on for the first mile I've run in a long time. I ran that mile in 9 minutes (exactly!), which is a pretty shit time considering what I knew I could have done a year ago. However, I am so proud of that mile. It is the first mile on the long road of getting my life back. I'm going to set a goal and I'm going to write it down. If I write it down it will be more real. I'm going to try and run one mile every day for the next two weeks. I know that one mile is not that big a deal, but given I've recently recovered from some sort of knee injury and given a crappy work life balance one daily mile is a big achievement. One mile every day for the next two weeks.Goal set. Published for the world to see. On your marks, get set, GO!
