Instead of actually doing work today, more so than usual because it happens to be a Friday of a short work week, I spent the majority of the day plugged into my iPhone, listening to music and "surfing" the web. "Surfing" is only in quotation marks because I generally hit the exact same webpages over and over again, every single time I happen to find myself both bored and online at the same time. I generally start with email, then move to chatting, online newspapers and magazines, then to the usual social networking sites, my favorite blogs, and if it happens to be a really boring day - online shopping.
Enough with the sidebar.
I had made it past the emails, chats, and New York Times when I decided I was officially at "Bored - LEVEL IV" and signed into facebook. I feel like ever since the economy started tanking that people feel more of a need to express themselves via the facebook notes application. This was especially poignant during the whole "25 random things about me" note tagging catastrophy that happened back in Dec'08/Jan'09. I wholeheartedly refused to partake in something so ridiculous. I'm not tagging everyone I know to read some stupid post that I wrote because I have nothing better to do with my time then write 25 random things about myself.
Or maybe I just didn't do it because I couldn't think of 25 things that I felt were interesting enough to be considered both "random" and tag-worthy via facebook notes. I'm just not that cool. If you can think of 25 random things that you would like to share about me then let me know and maybe I will compile them. Hopefully with all of the compilations they will add up to 25.
Enough of the sidebar, here's what I really wanted to write about.
Today I was tagged in a note by a coworker that actually seemed both fun AND relevant, seeing as to how I was both bored AND listening to music on my iPhone. The note was titled, "Soundtrack to my Life" and the rules were pretty simple.
1. Turn your iPod to shuffle and write down the title and artist of the first song that plays in the space for song one.
2. Skip ahead TWO songs and repeat, writing down the song's title and artist.
3. Do step 2 until all blanks are filled out.
So the way the "Soundtrack" part of this note worked was that each blank listed an event or a time-period that would normally happen in an everyday average American's life and the song you wrote down would somehow correspond or be symbolic of that event or time-period.
For example, the first blank was called, Opening Credits. My first song was "Como el Agua" by Chambao, which reminds me of driving my car through the Spanish countryside to get to my aunt and uncle's house in the mountains. If I had a movie about my life, coincidentially I would totally use this song for the opening credits. It's super chill lounge music that has just enough of a beat to prep you for the more peppy stuff later in the evening.
The rest of the blanks were called, Waking Up, First Day of School, Falling in Love, and so on all the way until Funeral.
Kind of interesting. And like I said, I was bored so it totally worked out and provided me with a good solid 15 minutes of entertainment.
So in the spirit of music I thought that I would share the Top Ten songs that I'm currently obsessed with. There's no real reason for this other than to write it down so that one day I can look back on this and be like, "I can't believe I actually listened to that crap," or "I was so ahead of the scene!"
So without further adeau, here's my Top Ten for the moment:
1. Freeze - T-Pain featuring Chris Brown
2. Love Letter to Japan - The Bird and the Bee
3. Love Story - Taylor Swift
4. Return the Favor - Keri Hilson featuring Timbaland
5. Beautiful - Akon featuring Colby O'Donis
6. Miss Independent - Ne-Yo
7. Bad Girl - Danity Kane featuring Missy Elliott
8. Right Round - Flo-Rida
9. Cold Shoulder - Adele
10. Into the Nightlife - Cyndi Lauper
I hope you enjoyed this gratuitous look into my wonderful, trashy, or wonderfully trashy music tastes. I'll update when a song drops off the list. Adele may very quickly be rocketing up into my top 5 since she is in the running to fill the void left by Amy Winehouse after she totally screwed herself, her music, and life itself.
until then,
hugs,
S
