Lunch dates and Non-dates

Today began relatively normal - I was sitting in my cubicle beginning what appeared to be a long day of statistical programming (per usual), when my boss runs up and says, "Matt says that he can't meet for lunch, he's been hit by a car and is on his way to the hospital, but he'll call you later."

Random.

So I had plans to meet my friend Matt for lunch this afternoon, but while he was biking on his way to work he got hit by a car. I guess the car hit the bike because he was just thrown off and got some major road rash - all according to my boss - I haven't confirmed this yet with Matt directly. I have to admit though, it is either 1.) very thoughtful or 2.) very strange that while on his way to the hospital he was coherent enough to cancel our lunch plans. Lucky boy, I'm glad he's ok and it wasn't more serious.

On a similar wavelength - I was riding the light rail back from the supermarket today when I was hit on by a rather unfortunate looking fellow. The dialogue went something like this:

Unfortunate Looking Fellow (ULF): "Are you a model?"

Me (with my headphones still in and thinking, Are you kidding me? This is the lamest pick up line ever!): Um, no.

ULF: "Well, you should be."

Me (Audible sigh): Um, thanks.

ULF: So do you do coffee or do you do tea?

Me: Neither, I'm not going on a date with you.

[Pause]

ULF: Can I have your number anyway?

[end scene, with me walking off the train, a few stops early, briskly in the direction of my apartment]

What the hell?! Seriously, the creepy people in this city are waaaaay to extroverted. To all of you crazies who I don't know who may be reading this right now: Please don't hit on people while they are coming home from work, or from the grocery store, or while on public transportation. It's just not kosher. If they have their headphones in, or if they're reading a book, chances are they aren't interested in speaking to anyone, let alone being hit on by anyone. Just a word to the wise.

This city shocks me every single day. If anything, I should continue living here just to keep me on my toes!

So which is it? Coffee or tea? Or am I too unfortunate-looking?

Dude, your boss takes messages for you? That's the best internship ever.

That is a random pick-up attempt. I never recall getting hit on while aboard MUNI but maybe it's something about the N-Juda, it does go through the Castro. Or maybe I just look too straight. Anyway I would check Craigslist to see if this guy is looking for you under the missed connections section.
